Meet Our Team
Dr. Ingram was born and raised in Petal, Mississippi. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi with an emphasis in Physics. He then went on to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he obtained his MD degree. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Ingram joined Southern Surgery and Urology Center in 2017. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, bariatric surgery, and hernia surgery. He is currently in the process of obtaining certification in da vinci robotic-assisted surgery.
Dr. Azar hails from Pineville, Louisiana, and graduated from LSU with a BS in Science in 1988. She continued her education in Shreveport at the Louisiana State University Medical School-Shreveport, and graduated with an M.D. degree in 1993. Dr. Azar completed her internship in General Surgery at Tulane University in 1995. She completed her residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA, in Urology in 1999 as chief resident in Urology. Dr. Azar has been practicing in Hattiesburg since that time, and is board certified.
Dr. Azar is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from LSU with a BS in Zoology in 1987, and finished medical school at LSU-Shreveport, and graduated with an M.D. degree in 1991. He did an internship at LSU-Shreveport, and then transferred to Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans to finish his surgical residency. He served as a chief resident at Charity Hospital, completing his training in 1997. Dr. Azar founded Southern Surgery in Hattiesburg in 1998. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has a special interest in hernia repair and laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Girod was raised in Baton Rouge, LA and graduated from Louisiana College with a degree in Biology in 1990. He went on to medical school at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, graduating with an M.D. degree in 1994. He did his internship and residency in General Surgery at LSU-Shreveport, finishing in 2000. Dr. Girod has been in Hattiesburg with Southern Surgery since that time. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr Girod has a special interest in bariatrics and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Moore is a native of Louisiana, raised in Baton Rouge. He graduated from LSU with a BS in Microbiology in 1995, and went to Northeastern Louisiana University, finishing with a BS in Pharmacy in 1998. Dr. Moore graduated from medical school with an M.D. in 2003 from LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. He did his internship at the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center, department of General Surgery. Dr. Moore did his Urology residency at the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center, finishing in 2008. He went on to complete an additional fellowship at the University of Miami in 2009 in Endourology focusing on robotics, laparoscopic urology, and minimally invasive kidney stone techniques. Dr. Moore joined Southern Urology in 2009.

Dr. Compton was born and raised in Effingham, Illinois. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville with a Bachelors Fegree in Science with specializing in Biological Sciences. He then obtained his Medical Degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford Campus. After completing his MD, Dr. Compton completed his internship and surgical residency at University of Tennessee, Memphis. Dr. Compton Joined Southern Surgery in 2016. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Compton is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery. He has special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Hernia Surgery, and Colon Surgery
Ms. Norris graduated with a BA in Psychology from Ole Miss in May 2002 and went on to continue her education at the The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. At UMMC she received a BS in Nursing as well as a MS in Nursing (FNP) in 2009. She has gained experience as a nurse at multiple medical centers throughout the United States including the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Carey Leigh is happy to now be providing services to the residents of Hattiesburg, MS at the Southern Surgery and Urology Center.
